OVER 5,000 participants are seeing action in the 2018 Palarong Armmaa (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association) that kicked off on Monday in Upi, Maguindanao.
Lawyer Rasol Mitmug Jr., Department of Education (DepEd)-ARMM secretary, on Tuesday said they comprise of student-athletes, DepEd officials such as division heads, teachers, and technical officers.
They are from the nine school divisions of the region, namely: Maguindanao I, Maguindanao II, Lanao del Sur I, Lanao del Sur II, Marawi City, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, and Lamitan City.
The athletes both from elementary and secondary schools will compete in archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiard, boxing, chess, football, futsal, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wushu, and wrestling.
The week-long activity will end on Friday, February 16.
Mitmug said the winners of the different events will compete at the Palarong Pambansa to held in Ilocos Sur.
The Palarong Armmaa is an annual athletic event of the DepEd-ARMM involving student-athletes from the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
Mitmug led the opening of the Palarong Armmaa held in Nuro Central Elementary School in Upi, Maguindanao.
The athletic event is anchored in the theme “Transformed and Productive ARMMians.”
The event focuses on the active development and transformation of the region’s young athletes.
