A ZAMBOANGUEÑA athlete, Alexis Nicole Go, is making waves in the field of powerlifting both in national and international competitions.
The latest feat of Go was a gold medal in deadlift, lifting 155-kilogram (Kg) and a silver medal in squat division with a record of 160-Kg during the Asian Powerlifting Championships 2017 in Bandung, Indonesia held from May 1 to 5.
Dr. Cecil Atilano, Zamboanga City sports development officer, said the Philippine Powerlifting team composed of 16 athletes brought home a total of 18 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze.
Go, 20, a resident of San Jose Cawa-cawa village, was lone athlete from Zamboanga City, with most of the team members coming from Manila, Ormoc and Tacloban.
Go previously competed in India in 2016 where she won a gold medal, and in Hong Kong in 2015 where she bagged a silver medal.
At the national level, she participated in a total of nine Powerlifting Competitions from 2012 to 2017 and won eight gold medals, one silver and one bronze medals. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
