THE first phase of the experimental traffic scheme for one way-street, no right turn and no left turn takes effect Monday, March 20, covering west coast bound vehicles.
The implementation starts at 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays.
City Government and police officials met on Saturday, March 18, with the transport group and discussed the final details concerning the first day of the implementation of the dry run on Monday.
On Friday, March 17, the Zamboanga City Government also convened a coordinative meeting of all concerned agencies that included the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and Land Transportation Office to also finalize preparations.
With the experimental traffic scheme, as mandated in Executive Order 250, the truck ban in Baliwasan area will also be lifted.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has called on the general public to support and cooperate with the experimental traffic scheme in a bid to decongest the city’s central business district.
Salazar said the ultimate goal of this traffic experimentation is to amend the existing Ordinance 248, otherwise known as “The Revised Traffic Code of Zamboanga,” to keep it more relevant to the present time, taking into consideration the ever increasing volume of vehicles plying the streets of the city.
“We are open to suggestions and criticisms because nothing is final yet as of this time. But when we criticize, let's also offer solutions to the problems. What is important is your contribution,” Climaco said. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
