DAGUPAN CITY -- A total of 163 drug personalities were arrested in 154 anti-drug operations conducted by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) since the start of Project Double Barrel Reloaded (DBR) on March 6.
The apprehensions were made with the help of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) from March 6 to April 20 in 48 towns and cities in Pangasinan, said Police Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, head of the PPPO's police community relations office, in a report.
The DBR was relaunched on March 6 with a promise of a kinder, gentler and less bloody campaign against drugs.
Of the drug operations conducted in the province, 41 were done through search warrants, 91 through drug busts, eight through police responses, four through "Oplan Sita," two through the serving of warrants of arrest, and two in checkpoint operations.
One policeman died in the operation and 440 sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" and two sachets of marijuana were seized.
No "death under investigation" was reported.
The police also visited houses of drug personalities, including those who are in the drug watchlist.
From March 6 to April 20, there were 97 drug surrenderers, 23 of them have surrendered earlier.
The police also declared seven of the 48 towns and cities as cleared from illegal drugs. However, five of these are still undergoing validation processes.
The five are Natividad, San Nicolas, Bolinao, Agno and Alaminos City.
Florentino expressed confidence that these five areas will eventually be cleared by PDEA.
The town of Sto. Tomas was already drug cleared even before the start of the Duterte administration, while Laoac was cleared at a time when police have not yet resumed their operations against illegal drugs. (PNA)
