Hundreds troop to 3 job, biz fairs in Ilocos Region

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Hundreds of job seekers lined up in each of the three job and business fairs Monday, May 1, slated by the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) regional office in three separate venues of Ilocos Region.

Nathaniel Lacambra, Dole Ilocos Region director, said the job and business fairs under the program "Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan" (TNK) are the result of collaboration between Dole and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as part of the national celebration of Labor Day.

The job and business fairs were held at the CB Mall in Urdaneta City and in Lingayen, Pangasinan; and Robinsons Place in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.

The program's theme this year is, “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago”, underscoring Dole’s role in providing opportunities for decent work and economic growth, said Lacambra.

The activity is designed to help the country achieve and keep unemployment level down to five percent by creating 7.5 million jobs mainly in key employment generating sectors like manufacturing, agri-business, construction, tourism, IT-BPM, transportation and logistics, and retail trade sectors.

Also at the job fair sites were representatives of government agencies like the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and Social Security System to jobseekers, new graduates, and workers re-entering the labor market.

“We make it easy and fast for job seekers to find jobs that fit their qualifications, interests and career inclinations while we continue to review our entrepreneurship and livelihood programs to improve our assistance to those seeking livelihood and want to venture into entrepreneurial activities,” Lacambra said.

Lucky applicants are to fill up positions made available by local and foreign companies, all of which sent their representatives to conduct the recruitment. (PNA)
