SAN SIMON – The Environmental Management Bureau III (EMB-3) vowed to visit all smelting plants in this town which were reportedly violating environmental laws.
This was disclosed by EMB-3 Clearance and Permitting Division Chief Dennis Celestial, saying their agency is bound to address the complaints aired by affected residents here.
Celestial said that the agency will strictly impose RA 8749 or Philippine Clean Air Act to ensure healthy air for families living near the factories.
“Nakatanggap kami ng mga complaints from residents and concerned citizens regarding smoke emission ng mga planta dito at dun magbe-base ang inspection natin,” he said.
He added that there are four smelting plants registered in this town including SKK Steel Corporation, Melters Steel Corporation, Real Steel Corporation and Wan Chiong Steel Corporation.
Celestial said that Real Steel Corporation was first investigated following the cease and desist order implemented by the local government and Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
However, Real Steel Corporation was already cleared after passing the air pollution test and was already issued the permit to operate.
“Isusunod natin lahat ng mga tunawan ng bakal para masiguro natin na malinis at ligtas yung hangin sa mga communities,” he said.
Celestial also disclosed that aside from mining industries, Environment Secretary Gina Lopez is also watching over all factories which are possibly violating any environmental laws.
He said that their agency is not against investors providing opportunities for people but are only ensuring the health and safety of citizens.
