William Belo, a Sapphire Jubilarian, Class of 1973, acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from UST. Right after he graduated, he decided to venture into business and put up a 60-square meter hardware shop in Quezon Avenue that now turned out to be the country's leading home improvement and construction supply retailer. Today, Wilcon Depot has built up a network of 41 stores nationwide. Recently, William Belo has also earned the Philippine Retailers Association and Department of Trade and Industry President's Award for 2017 as 'Patriarch of Home Building Retail' for his invaluable contribution to the growth of the home building retail sector.
The alumni awardees are individuals who exemplify the Thomasian values of competence and excellence in their respective fields of expertise in pioneering human endeavors, compassion for others, and commitment to their profession. These Thomasians stand out as they take the challenge to live up to the legacy of the university. (PR)
