Ateneo Blue Eagles Soar as Champions

The Ateneo Blue Eagles are the Champions of the UAAP Season 80 Men's Basketball Tournament after they soar past the La Salle green Archers with the score, 88-86.

After coming off from the loss in game 2, the Eagles started the game with a sense of urgency as they were not only attacking the basket and making their shots, but also defending the Green Archers to just 14 points by the end of the quarter.

But Ben Mbala of the Green Archers led his team back with a 11-1 run by attacking the basket and being a powerhouse at the rebounding and defensive category tying the game in the second quarter at 25 all with 5:48 left. The Blue Eagles countered their attack and was able to end the quarter with the score 45-38.

The third quarter wasn't any different as the Green Archers kept on fighting despite the Blue Eagles making magnificent plays to extend the lead. Ricci Rivero, led a small run for La Salle with a slam dunk in the 3 minute and 28th mark. The quarter ended with the game tied at 66-66.

In the 4th quarter, the Blue Eagles looked like they were going to get a win by their 10 point lead with 4 minutes left 80-70. This lead was trimmed down by a lead after a three-point shot by the Archer's Aljun Melecio and some ferocious plays made by Mbala and a clutch three-pointer by Andrei Caracut in 48th second mark bringing the game to just 2 points , 82-80.

But the Eagles soared away with their next play.

Thirdy Ravena who led the Blue Eagles with 17 points for the game, drived to the basket eluding the defense to go inside the paint and passed the ball to his teammate Isaac Go who had so much space in the three-point line and made the dagger three-pointer to seal the game with a five point lead with 28 seconds remianing.

Final Score 88-86.

Ben Mbala led his Green Archers with 19 points along side Aljun Melecio with 16 points.

The Blue Eagles had Ravena with 17 points and Matt Nieto with 14.

Thirdy Ravena was crowned the Finals MVP.
