Ex-NBA coaches mull training school in Iloilo City

ILOILO City -- Two former American coaches and mentors of basketball stars in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States came to visit this city on Monday for a possible setting up of a training school here.

Coach Daniel Palaggio of LA Lakers and Andrew Dunlop of Phoenix Suns meet with City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to discuss on their “exploratory plan” in establishing a world-class training school for athletes in basketball and volleyball in this city.

Both pro coaches admitted they had searched the internet and knew about the passion for sports of the city mayor and the love for basketball by the Ilonggos.

They saw that Iloilo City is a possible venue for a training school in the whole Asia. They said the city is business-friendly, free from monster traffic like Metro Manila and Ilonggos are ardent basketball fans.

Mabilog said he was pleased to hear that former NBA coaches are considering the city to host a world class training center and sports arena that will add to the sports tourism image of the city. (LCP)
