PIA opens info kiosks in Iloilo City for Asean 2017

ILOILO CITY -- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Western Visayas launched its information kiosks for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in the city and province of Iloilo, Saturday, March 4.

The PIA kiosks are located at the arrival area of the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan and at SM City Iloilo. It will run until March 10.

“The kiosks will feature information materials about Asean and other programs and projects of government,” according to Director Janet Mesa of PIA-Western Visayas as she invited mall goers of SM City Iloilo to join them during the launching program.

Director Mesa said the main task of the agency is to create awareness and knowledge about government programs and projects and the Asean 2017 is one of the major programs of the government this year being the host country. Of added importance to the hosting of the Philippines is that Asean is celebrating its 50th year.

PIA officials led by Director-General Harold Clavite and Deputy Director General Angelo Villar attended the launch. They were joined by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Congressman Jerry Trenas.

The kiosks will be manned by PIA-Western Visayas staff who will be giving available information materials and answer queries about the country’s hosting of the Asean 2017. The kiosks operation is in time for the holding of the Asean Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting from March 6 to 9, 2017 at the Iloilo Convention Center.

Mesa said another PIA kiosk will be opened at Robinsons Place in Ledesma Street from March 13 to 17 to accommodate more visitors, especially from Southern Iloilo and Guimaras.

“We have solicited the support of our malls in our effort to heighten the awareness of the public about the regional integration and its many opportunities for Filipinos,” said Mesa. (PIA)
