WEEKEND Tienda sa Iloilo, a strategy of the government to boost micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), is all set to go full swing this March following a successful launch in November last year.
The three-day activity will be held at the Atria Park District in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, from March 10 to 12.
It aims to assist MSMEs and local farmers in marketing their products.
The activity will showcase natural to organic local products or those that were grown using good agricultural practices.
Spearheaded by the Taytay Sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI), Panay Organic Producers Association and the Youth First Initiatives, it also has generated the support of the Western Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC).
“RDC passed a resolution adopting and fully supporting the Weekend Tienda sa Iloilo as a strategy of government in partnership with the private sector to really support micro, small and medium enterprises as well as our farmers who for the longest time has been expressing their concern about marketing their products and making it to the mainstream so they can be more motivated to produce more quantities for everyone,” National Economic and Development Authority Director Ro-Ann Bacal, who is also the Acting RDC Chairperson in Western Visayas, said.
Bacal said Western Visayas is endowed with “unique” products as well as emerging ones that were showcased in various events in the region.
“We feel that we are on the right direction,” she added as she urged the support of the local media in raising public awareness about the forthcoming event.
The organizers expect around 60 exhibitors from state universities and colleges, farmers and MSMEs supported by the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Agriculture.
There will also be participants coming from the city and province of Iloilo.
Cherry Ganancial of the TSKI said they look forward to link the exhibitors to institutional or big buyers and make the event more sustaining.
Local Economic and Investment Promotion Officer of the Iloilo Provincial Government Velma Lao said necessary coordination has been done to assist exhibitors from the province.
Some exhibitors that could not afford to pay for the booth will be subsidized, according to the organizers.
The Weekend Tienda will be from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on March 10, and 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2p.m. to 10 p.m. on March 11 and 12. (PNA)
