Negros cops file charges vs suspected drug pusher

DUMAGUETE CITY -– Police authorities in Amlan, Negros Oriental have filed charges against a suspected drug pusher for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act as amended.

Charged in court was Arturo Povadora, 42 years old, a resident of Barangay Looc here, said Police Senior Inspector Michael Rubia, police chief of Amlan.

According to Rubia, more than P50,000 worth of suspected shabu was seized from the suspect during an anti-narcotics operation Monday evening.

On Monday night, a resident informed the police of a suspicious person sighted in Barangay Tandayag in Amlan.

Rubia said policemen immediately responded to the report and saw the suspicious-looking person wearing a sweatshirt with hood, hat and sling bag. When accosted and asked for identification, the suspect became hesitant and uneasy and tried to run from the police officers.

During a body search when arrested, police found in his possession a big heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet with suspected metamphetamine hydrochloride or what is commonly called shabu with an estimated weight of five grams, said Rubia.

The suspected shabu had an estimated value of P50,000.

Also recovered from the suspect were a small heat-sealed plastic sachet of suspected shabu with an estimated weight of four grams and P4,150 cash. (PNA)
