TO POPULARIZE and strengthen the team sport Frisbee in Davao Region, the Visit Davao Summer Festival (VDSF) 2018 will hold the second Bonamine Ultimate Beach Frisbee Tournament on April 27-29 at Menzi Beach Park and Campsite, Dahican in Mati, Davao Oriental.
Around 300 participants and 13 teams are expected in the event.
Batang Mandaya of Mati City will be defending its title against 12 other teams.
Challengers include DDS, Buwis Buhay, Mulatto, Soldiers and LGBT all from Davao City; Seeners and Activo Airborn from Tagum City; Ultimate Kwaknet and Batang Mandaya from Mati City; Hornets from San Isidro; Chillside from Bukidnon; Blackbug from Maco and Toothless from Nabunturan.
The registration for the sport is ongoing and will end on Monday, April 23. Registration fee is P300 inclusive of the dinner for the first night and water. There are also invited bands for the socialization night.
Tournament organizers also invited guest player Alvin Pura, weather reporter from ABS-CBN Manila.
In an interview with Wenjie Lorenzo Lugayao, organizer of the tournament, she said this year is different because of the preparations, the schedules and the dissemination of information which is more organized and accessible to the public.
“Last year we only had seven teams who participated in the event because of the lack of preparation, lack of invites and also due to the conflict of time schedules by the supposed participating teams,” she added.
Also a new venue, the Menzi Beach, was chosen by the organizers because of its accessibility.
“We have tried some locations last year but some of them do not fit into the setting of the tournament, we chose Mati because of its pulverized sand, easy to go with and large area which suits for the competition,” she added. (Kent Warren Fugoso, FSUU Intern)
