THE Ateneo de Davao University collected a total of 17 gold medals, seven silvers and nine bronze to emerge overall champion in the just-concluded Davao Association of Catholic Schools Sports Festival athletics competition held at the Fr. Martinez Sports Complex, Addu Matina Campus.
Franz Kenji Vilela, a Senior High School student and a member of Running Out of Poverty, paced the Blue Knights with four golds but is ineligible to advance in the upcoming Davao City Athletic Association Meet as he is overage.
Vilela copped golds in HS boys 100m, 400m, 4x100m relay and 4x300m relay.
Suzane Ganados, for her part, added three golds (HS girls 1500m, 800m and 4x300m relay) while Ana Maria Mempin and Ashante Amaneo pocketed two golds each.
Mempin topped grade school girls 800m and 400m while Amaneo outran her rivals in grade school 200m and 100m events.
The other gold winners were Edward Pius Aronciano (HS boys 5,000m), Alyssa Mae Fudot (HS girls 1,600m walk), Brianna Yesha Loke (HS girls 400m), Karen Pearl Lapid (HS girls 200m), Aena Miguela Gonzaga (HS girls 1,000m), Carl Kristoffer Elemino (HS boys shot put) and Demme Alexander and teammates (HS girls 4x100m relay).
Kent Lloyd Tan, Reggie Raye Jaleco, Pius, Gonzaga, Elemino, Karen Pearl Lapid and Jann Dexter Bangayan settled for silvers while Donne Milbren Hong, Alleya Jonna Baiño, Elemino, Maria Maningning Miclat, Voltaire Sto Dimongo, Reign Christian Jaleco and Tan salvaged bronzes.
Our Lady of Fatima Academy (OLFA)'s Carlo Capuras, meanwhile, bagged five golds in grade school boys shot put, 800m, 200m, 100m and 4x100m relay even as Lyka Ohashi (HS girls 3,000m), Pol Rosillo (grade school boys 1,500m), Jullian Visaya (grade school girls 1,500m), Renzo Ramos (grade school boys 1,600m walk) and Danica Abdullah (grade school girls 1,600m walk) also won golds along with Holy Cross of Babak's Nikka Verano (HS girls shot put) Ryle Inguito (HS boys 200m) and Holy Cross of Davao College's Bill Roldan Pantonosas (HS boys 1,500m).
