THE Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) in coordination with the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office will hold its 4th Kadayawan Get Into Rugby Festival that will unfurl on Saturday, August 12, at the Tionko Football Field along Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City.
PRFU senior program development officer Rose Lanticse said that the two-day event is part of the Get Into Rugby program that is supported by the city government of Davao through SDD-CMO.
Aside from celebrating the 32nd Kadayawan sa Dabaw, Lanticse said it also aims to effectively develop the sports and promote the Get Into Rugby branding.
"Club members and teacher-coaches will also be able to practice their touch rugby match officiating knowledge," Lanticse said, adding that the event will also serve as a scouting opportunity to select potential athletes to represent Davao City in the upcoming national and international tournaments.
Lanticse added that from 200 participants last year, they expect around 300 participants to join in this year's edition of the event backed by Direct Aid Program, Pot Bellied Pigs RFC Hong Kong. Department of Education Davao City Division, Philippine Sports Commission, Mindanao Rugby Football Development Inc., SOS Children's Village Davao, Jollibee, JML, Dadiangas Generals Rugby Football Club, GoodSource Business Solutions, Nature's Spring and San Miguel Integrated Sales.
Categories entered are elementary boys and girls and secondary boys and girls division.
A club tackle match dubbed as "Durians Dare" will be among the highlights of the event, pitting Davao Durians Rugby Football Club against Dadiangas Generals Rugby Football Club.
By constantly promoting the sport in the entire country, Lanticse also said that teaching values and character formation is vital in the program.
