FOR the first time, a selection of top local collegiate players will represent Davao City against three University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) teams in the 2017 Kadayawan sa Dabaw Sports Festival Invitational Basketball Tournament slated August 25 to 28 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Family Room Thursday.

He said, a total of 31 players from Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors, Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings, Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders and John Paul II College of Davao will join a two-day tryouts that will determine the final 15.

"The selection team will train together until the games start. We are supporting this team. I appreciate the coaches' willingness to come together for this endeavor," Aportadera said in the vernacular, adding that uniforms and meals of the players will be taken care of.

He also said that the coaches chose HCDC head coach Ice Gravador to head the selection team but they will have yet to decide the team name and moniker.

Cash prizes and trophies are at stake in the league sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
