Public warned vs summer ailments

Davao City Health officer Dr. Josephine Villafuerte warns the public against heat stroke and other ailments that can be acquired during summer.

Villafuerte said symptoms of heat stroke include dizziness and weakness.
"You must drink lots of water, stay in shape and wear protective gears and umbrella," she said.

She also added that conjunctivitis or sore eyes are also among the highly contagious diseases that tend to infect more during summer.

Another one is diarrhea, especially in hinterland areas where potable water is scarce.

"Kung saan-saan na lang sila magkuha ng water so pwede sila magkaroon ng diarrhea," she said.

(The source their water anywhere so it’s likely they’ll get diarrhea)

She said hot season also brings about food poisoning since food spoils easily if placed under hot temperature.

"When prepared, food should be eaten within two hours, and maximum of four hours," she said.

Villafuerte advised the public to practice personal hygiene properly. Also to avoid heat stroke, one should not go out under the sun after 10 a.m., she advised.
