PAWSOME Café is not your ordinary dog café. It is a combination of café for humans and playhouse for humans to meet up with their in-house dogs. Their goal is to be the first successful dog café in Davao City.
It all started when two friends, Cherry Manning, a registered nurse from San Pedro College and Francie Calderon, a graduate of Business Management from Ateneo De Manila University, decided to put up a business out of instinct after visiting a cat café in Korea. They decided to visit more pet cafés in Thailand, Japan, and Manila. Both friends were torn whether to open up a cat café or dog café; since both of them are dog lovers, they finally decided to go with dogs.
Calderon said they consumed two months for preparation, “We had an informal conversation about opening up this business around the first of February and after all the works we opened the café last April 8. We are proud that we are the first of its kind and we hope for Pawsome to be a tourist destination,” Manning added.
Coming up with the name was a struggle. They originally tried registering the store with “Bark Avenue” but as per checking with Department of Trade and Industries (DTI) the name was already taken. Manning thought about combining paws and awesome and so the name Pawsome Dog Café was born. The very inviting café was designed by architect Jan “Chin Chin” Villalon.
The whole business is just a plus for them and what really pushed them to put up this business was passion. Having dogs and making people realize that dogs are good companion.
Cherry and Francie worried mostly about the welfare of the dogs. They wanted to make sure that the dogs are trained, complete with shots, and of course they should also be human-oriented.
Registration for the playhouse is either P190 or P220 depending on the drinks you’ll buy but if you want to eat out with your family or friends, this café should be one of your choices because they cater yummy treats for both humans and dogs. Their best sellers are Nachos, Lasagna, and Pork Chop rice meal. They also have drinks like milkteas, milkshakes, caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks. All we can say is that you are definitely going to get what you paid for.
Pawsome is located at Autoville Bldg., F. Torres Street, Davao City and opens daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the café while the playhouse is available only from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
