TO prepare the bench tacticians for the 2nd Governor’s Cup 21-Under Basketball Tournament, the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) is conducting a clinic at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex. The three-day clinic spearheaded by former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) coach and current San Beda Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez together with his coaching staff started yesterday.
CPSC executive director Atty. Ramil Abing said the clinic is for the coaches and assistant coaches of the participating local government units (LGU) to get them ready before the tournament kicks off on April 15 in the Cebu Coliseum.
Day 1 of the clinic tackled coaching philosophy and building the team’s system, conditioning in basketball, individual players’ skills and offense-setting.
On the following days, Fernandez will head the conditioning drills, transition basketball, defense execution, planning of practice, scouting and video editing, open practice and open forum.
Forty-five teams from seven districts of Cebu Province have signed up for the province-wide basketball tournament, which will shell out P500, 000 cash prizes for the champion, P300,000 for second place, P200,000 for third place and P100,000 for fourth place.
Competing from the South Division are Talisay City, Minglanilla, City of Naga, San Fernando, Carcar City, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Alcoy, Boljoon, Oslob, Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan, Alegria, Moalboal, Alcantara, Badian and Dumanjug, Barili, Aloguinsan, Balamban and Asturias.
The teams for North Division are Mandaue City, Tuburan, Tabuelan, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Santa Fe, Bantayan, Madridejos, Tabogon, Bogo City, Danao, Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela, San Francisco, Poro, Tudela, Consolacion and Cordova. (RSC)
