Demecillo slugs it out with Mirzaev in Russia

EXPECT Kenny Demecillo to be in unbeaten World Boxing Council (WBC) International Silver bantamweight champion Vyacheslav Mirzaev’s face all night long when they square off on March 17 at RGK “Kapitan” in Anapa, Russia.

“He (Mirzaev) has an amateur boxing style. He likes to run. Our game plan is chase him and pin him down in the corner because we believe that it’s our only chance to win,” Demecillo’s coach Jingjing Tepora told SunStar Cebu.

Demecillo is a pressure fighter who loves to trade heavy blows with his opponents, making most of his fights exciting.

The 25-year-old Demecillo dropped his first fight last year. He lost by unanimous decision against fellow Filipino Mark Anthony Geraldo in Hong Kong. Demecillo bounced back with a lopsided unanimous decision win over experienced Gerpaul Valero.

Mirzaev also had two fights in 2017. He totally outclassed Anthony Settoul and Sukpraserd Ponpitak both by unanimous decision.

“This will be a good fight because he is undefeated,” said Demecillo.

Demecillo, once Naoya Inoue’s sparring partner, is 13-4-2 with seven knockouts, while the 29-year-old Mirzaev is 10-0 with just a single knockout. (EKA)
