MORE political aspirants for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in Cebu City filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday.
Some 307 aspirants from the north and south districts have filed their COCs since the filing period started last Saturday.
In the north district, 102 more candidates filed their COCs yesterday: seven for barangay captains, 44 for barangay councilors, six for SK chairman and 45 for SK councilors.
In the south district, 79 candidates for barangay posts and 35 for the SK have filed their COCs in the last three days.
Comelec North District Election Assistant Omar Sharif Mamalinta said more candidates filed their COCs during the first few days of the filing period compared to previous years.
Mamalinta said that they have intensified their information drive to encourage aspirants to file their papers early to avoid a last-day rush.
“We encourage them to file early because there will be no extension during the last day of the filing. At 4:45 p.m., we will get the complete requirements for verification and if there will be a problem, they might not be able to file it,” he said.
The filing period will close on Friday.
Aside from the candidacy form, Mamalinta said political aspirants must attach a documentary stamp and have their COCs notarized before these can be accepted. (RVC)
