Calingin tows Liceo’s strong start in Cosdel U18 caging

FORMER La Salle Green Hills guard Paolo Calingin and the Liceo Jr. Titans debuted with a bang in the 2017 Cosdel Inter-School basketball tournament which opened here on Friday at the Nazareth gym.

The 17-year-old Calingin, who is a member of the NMRAA team that won the 2012 Palarong Pambansa elementary basketball championship in Dumaguete City, sizzled with 20 points, 5 assists and two steals in besting Merry Child School, 80-75 for their maiden appearance in 18-under boys division.

Liceo also got 11 and 10 points each from Bancale and Lagat and a combined 20 markers from Moreno and Saarenas.

"Hopefully, we could become more nga mas molig-on pa sa sunod nga mga dula," said Paolo’s youthful dad, Paul Andrew "Andy" Calingin, who’s now calling the shots for the Junior Titans.

Pascual, committee chairman for youth and sports in the City Council, who’s been very supportive to Liceo’s cause.

Meanwhile, title favorite Southern de Oro Philippines College Sharks of coach Rey Dangcal also started with a 73-60 triumph over Philippine Women's Academy in the collegiate division.

Emmanuel Akut III finished with 14 points to lead the Sharks, while Daga and Pagaran added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
