Catajan: The gift of flight

Maria Elena Catajan

IT IS magical to fly, that is why we are enthralled by the Peter Pan, they boy who never grew up.
His ability to take flight and soar.

Peter Pan is a myth, held on to be an urban legend for some of the die- hard believers, maybe that is the reason why most of us are obsessed with air travel, because it holds sense of magic and wonder.

Let the concept of Peter Pan take us to the impending accessibility of air travel making one of the nest kept destinations more accessible to the word. The Banaue Rice Terraces.

News has it that it will be easier to go to the Banaue Rice Terraces with a local carrier willing to take the flights from the rising Clark International Airport to Nueva Viscaya.

The gift of flight has been bestowed the 8th wonder of the world, now is it time to rejoice?

Of course, as tourism officials are overjoyed at the prospect of easier access to the Cordillera’s top destination as Banaue has not lost its power to draw the international market to its doorsteps, flight or no flight.

Of course, it will connect seamlessly Banaue to the international market, which has had an unwavering connection to the place since time immemorial.

The feat is an accomplishment in any book by the tourism department which was in wanting of access to the airports and ports for the region for the longest time.

Connecting land travel is not to be arranged from Viscaya to Banaue. Cheers.

Talk about flight has reminded me of my favourite book from way back, the Illusions of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach.

Here are a few of my favourite quotes.

“Remember where you came from, where you’re going, and why you created the mess you got yourself into in the first place. You're going to die a horrible death, remember. It's all good training, and you'll enjoy it more if you keep the facts in mind. Take your dying with some seriousness, however. Laughing on the way to your execution is not generally understood by less-advanced life-forms, and they'll call you crazy.”

“The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof.”

“Your conscience is the measure of the honesty of your selfishness.

“Like attracts like. Just be who you are, calm and clear and bright. Automatically, as we shine who we are, asking ourselves every minute is this what I really want to do, doing it only when we answer yes, automatically that turns away those who have nothing to learn from who we are,and attracts those who do, and from whom we have to learn, as well.”
