ST. JOHN’S Institute (SJI) shuttlers bagged the gold in the Team Tie Event in high school girls and elementary boys divisions of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (Nopsscea) badminton tournament held on November 9 to 12 at the Po Hang Badminton Center in Bacolod City.
SJI mentored by Jay Biñas was the only team with top three finishes in all team events.
The SJI high school girls, composed of Ellana Tan, Mia Manguilomotan, Sophia Reyne Gustilo, Mariella Jereza, Pretzel Giana Ong, Mica Uy and Alyanna Arceo, carved out a 2-1 victory over Trinity Christian School in the finals.
The SJI elementary boys team of by Christopher Anglo, Brendan Lui Anglo, Allen Yusay, Gabriel Ananoria, Gabe Benedict Tan, Ronald Gustilo and Ramon Feria scored a 2-0 win over Tay Tung High School to bag the title.
The SJI elementary girls won the silver as they fell to St. Scholastica’s Academy 1-2 in the finals while the high school boys took the bronze.
Manguilomatan and Tan won the gold in high school girls boubles while Brendan Lui Anglo and Christopher Anglo were the champions in the elementary boys doubles. (PR)
