THOUSANDS of young athletes from across the Visayas region will converge in Dumaguete City for 2017 Batang Pinoy Qualifying Leg for Visayas on September 10 to 16.
The Batang Pinoy is a national competition program for children 17 years old and below.
This grassroots-based sport undertaking aims to widen the base to select potential athletes for future national and international sports competitions, primarily the quadrennial Youth Olympic Games.
The event is also in line with the commitment of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to develop and promote sports by encouraging sports programs to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy citizenry.
Furthermore, the PSC has continuously encouraged all local government executives alongside the Department of Education to invest in the development of sports within their respective areas.
Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo assures PSC Chief of Staff Ronnel Abrenica of the city's readiness to fulfill its obligations as host in cooperation with the provincial government and private sector. (HGD)
